Building A Solar Sterilizer
Materials:
- Glass
- 1 Meter X 1 Meter sheet of glass (thick, or double pane)
- Lumber
- 4-38mmX89mmX2440
- Plywood
- 1220mmX2440mm
- Highly reflective material
- 4 square meters
- Highly insulating clay/ceramic material.
- Nails
- Hammer
- 4 Hinges
- 1 Lock
- Assemble a box using the plywood and Lumber.
- Cut 2 pieces of the lumber to 1 meter in length and 2 pieces to 1.76m long.
- Cut the Plywood to 1 meter by 1 meter.
- Nail the plywood to the cut lumber so that the 2 1-meter by 1-meter pieces are parallel and the 1.76-meter pieces are parallel.
- Take an equal sized piece of plywood as the base of the box, attach this to the bottom of the box with two hinges on one edge.
- Insulating
- Apply the clay-like material to the inside of the box. Create a thick layer of around 3 inches throughout the box and let dry.
- Install racks to hold equipment.
- Paint both inside and outside black.
- Create Window
- Cut a 20mm slit through the Lumber.
- Cut 2 pieces of the lumber to 1 meter in length and 2 pieces to 1.76m long.
- Surround the glass with the wood to create a frame
- Connect the window to the box with 2 hinges on the same edge.
- Add lock to the connected box
- Reflective material
- Extend the reflective material out at a 45-degree angle from all sides of the window.
- There should be 4 rectangular sections coming out from the edges and 4 triangular sections out from the corners of the window.
- Additions
- Add racks to the inside
- Add thermometer
- Add time to the outside
